You Can Thank a Boomer For……

It’s come to my attention that many (but not all, thank goodness!) GenX’ers and Millenials think that Boomers are useless pieces of irrelevancy. At best.

Some younger people consider Boomers to be failures (a fate worse than death in Yuppieville!) with their Peace, Love and Idealism. Although 20-somethings can cozy right up to the idea of sex, drugs and rock n roll. But that’s youngsters for you:)

Actually many Boomers question and wonder if any of the hard work they have put in over the decades to implement their ideals – has done any good at all.

So here’s a List (feel free to add to it!) of things that would not exist today in its current form without the efforts – and sometimes the blood, sweat and tears – of your friendly local Boomer.

You Can Thank a Boomer For…….

• Green Initiatives – creating the original Earth Day and persisting in Green Thinking
• Organic Produce and Products on mainstream grocery shelves
• Equal Pay for Equal Work (still not equal – but Boomers are where it started)
• Civil Rights work and the Freedom Riders
• Power to the People! Ideals [which led directly to]
• Internet Use and Access by almost everyone around the world
• Open Source Programs (thanks Wordpress and others!)
• Apple Computers (thanks Steve Jobs and everyone at Apple!)
• Social Networking Ideals (eventually transferred to the internet)
• The Peace Corps
• And More to Come….

So next time you see a Boomer – no need to think: “What a geezer!” You might even go up to the Boomer and say: “Thanks for being there, man! You did good work!”

And if you are in a Hiring position or in HR – you might even consider hiring a gray-haired and aging Boomer. They’re pretty Cool!

And still Hip, goes without saying.
