Boomers Re-loaded: Job Survival Strategies

Special Guest:

Teresa Love
Boomers Program Outreach Coordinator, Richland College, DCCCD

Networking: Please bring business cards and be prepared to exchange with all. Everyone will have the opportunity to introduce yourself to the group and promote your business, job search or personal interests.

This is the New Wave: Boomers, Baby!

In a salon-style interactive discussion and exchange of ideas/info – the Topic this month is “Boomers Reloaded: Job Survival Strategies”. Our Guest Speaker is Teresa Love: Originator, Director and passionate believer in the Boomers Program at Richland College.

Side topics for discussion generated from the main topic will undoubtedly enter areas such as: “Why have a second career? Is it necessary? What about age-ism in the workplace? Any personal experience of this? And More. Be there and contribute!”

Teresa Love has created and continues to grow and expand the new Boomers Program at Richland College, DCCCD. Only about 30 community colleges nationwide have programs aimed at students 50 and older, and most are for retirees rather than baby boomers.

According to Teresa Love, community colleges are responding to the wave of laid off midlife students by offering accelerated programs that prepare them for new careers in as little as a year. Many midlife students are also taking computer courses to beef up their résumés…..

Dallas is very progressive in offering this vitally important Boomer programming. And Teresa has been at the forefront of this new trend in creating and expanding the Boomers Program at Richland College. Teresa will share info and her thoughts about the Boomers Program. Along with info on job upgrade skills acquisition, low cost/quick career re-training possibilities, resume writing and more – at the Boomers Program at DCCCD. Followed by general discussion on Boomer Job Survival Strategies, infosharing, networking, visiting and grooving!

Community colleges are responding to the wave of laid-off midlife students by offering accelerated programs that prepare them for new careers in as little as a year. Particularly popular at the moment are health care programs that train students to become caregivers, medical transcribers, pharmacy technicians and radiologists, she said. Many midlife students are also taking computer courses to beef up their résumés….
